The Atlas District, One of Washington DC’s Hidden Treasures.

Most Washington DC visitors work through an ambitious checklist of national monuments and Smithsonian Museums. However, if they are willing to venture beyond the usual, they will find local treasures tucked away in neighborhoods left untouched by the tour by numbers crowd. One of the best examples is located in the city’s northeast quadrant behind Union Station. The Atlas District, formerly known as Swampoodlem stretches roughly 12 blocks along H Street NE. This area is undergoing a revival. New and hip restaurants, unique pubs, music clubs, cutting-edge galleries and stunning theater venues are appearing all over the neighborhood and ready to reward those who go the extra mile to reach them.
